What is Body Harmony®?

 

Body Harmony® is the art of “listening” to the body through a gentle, non-invasive touch that helps align your body with your intentions.  By establishing a subtle and sensitive communication with the tissues, Body Harmony® promotes relaxation, balance and optimum health, and stimulates the body’s innate healing response.

 

Body Harmony was founded by Dr. Don McFarland over 20 years ago.  It integrates both traditional and esoteric methods from around the world.  This method is based on the body’s inclination and ability to heal itself.  “Body Harmony sees the client, not the practitioner as the true source of healing, and sees the client’s way rather than the practitioner’s way as the path to that healing.”²

 

As renowned author and spiritual instructor, Carolyn Myss, Ph.D., mentions in her book, Anatomy of the Spirit, healing and curing are not the same thing (47).  She further explains that a “cure” occurs when one has successfully controlled the physical progression of an illness (47).  “Healing, on the other hand, is an active and internal process that includes investigating one’s attitudes, memories, and beliefs with the desire to release all negative patterns that prevent one’s full emotional and spiritual recovery (48).”³

 

In addition, Ms. Myss defines illnesses as a consequence of behavioral patterns and attitudes that we do not realize are biologically toxic (43). 

 

Our bodies are living libraries of past experiences.  Your beliefs, values and dreams are encoded in the unique structure that is your physical body.  Your body is the reflection of your thoughts, feelings and experiences, all of which contribute to the formation of your cell tissue.  Simply put, our biography becomes our biology. 

 

Best described by Don McFarland, “Body Harmony is a program of behavioral reprogramming on the cellular level.”

 

During a Body Harmony® session, the client lies on a massage table, and wears loose comfortable clothing.  The practitioner uses gentle, non-invasive, and respectful touch to contact the client’s tissues, where past experiences are stored.  By listening to the body and following each person’s own unique path to healing, Body Harmony® allows the body to unwind, relax, and release past feelings and experiences, no matter what their origins or symptoms might be.
